Major ATS Platforms

Major ATS platforms are widely used applicant tracking systems like Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, and Taleo that power hiring at most large employers.

The ATS market is dominated by several major platforms, each with different parsing capabilities, user interfaces, and market segments. Understanding which systems employers use can help you optimize your resume formatting and submission approach.

Workday is one of the largest enterprise ATS platforms, used by many Fortune 500 companies. It is known for its comprehensive HR suite but can be complex for applicants, often requiring manual form filling even after resume upload. Greenhouse is popular among tech companies and startups, offering a more modern interface and generally strong parsing. Lever combines ATS and CRM functionality and is favored by mid-size tech companies. Taleo (Oracle) is one of the oldest and most widely deployed systems, particularly in large enterprises and government agencies. iCIMS serves a broad range of employers and is known for its integration capabilities.

While you generally cannot know which ATS an employer uses before applying, the universal best practice applies across all platforms: use clean formatting, standard section headings, a single-column layout, and submit in the requested file format. These conventions ensure reliable parsing regardless of the specific system processing your resume.
